Parent Involvement

Parent Involvement at Bairnsdale West

There are many areas of our school in which parents may become involved with their children. BWPS has a strong community commitment and we believe that the children’s full potential can be reached by a good partnership between teacher, parent and child.
We encourage you to become involved in some way with your child within the school. We understand that sometimes with work and/or younger children this is more difficult, but usually there is some small area that may suit you.

School Assemblies

Assemblies are held every Wednesday morning at 8:50am in Nova Hall. This is a short but informative time where awards are given, small performances provided and events are announced.

Classroom Activities

All teachers are happy to have parents involved to assist with reading, maths or sporting activities in a regular basis or on special occasions.

Parents & Friends

Our P&F Committee meet once a month. This is a short meeting to socialise, organise a fundraising event each term and provide an opportunity to discuss general school issues with the Principal.

Library Assistance

Our library coordinators are often looking for help with book covering, re-shelving books and stocktaking.

Canteen

Our canteen is run by a school employee and we depend on volunteers to help with lunch orders and serving the children at recess and lunchtimes. We run our canteen as a service to the families of our school with minimal profit. The Canteen offers various times in which you may be able to help and is grateful for any help on a weekly, monthly or once a term basis. It is a great way to meet other mums or dads and the children.

Breakfast Program

This program runs every morning from 8am – 9am. The program is supported by the Red Cross and local businesses. We are always looking for people to come along and help to cook toast, serve cereal, chat with staff and students, and wash a few dishes. Parents are welcome to help out on a weekly , monthly or term basis.

We hope to see you about our school as much as you can manage. Younger siblings of our students are welcome to come with you. Your children will love to have you as an extension of home and it’s a great way to get to know their teachers, classmates and how our school runs.
